Marta Molina. Del consol a la noviolència. Javier Sicilia, el poeta que va despertar Mèxic. Barcelona: Institut Català Internacional per la Pau; Líniazero, 2015.
Marta Molina arrived in Mexico in 2011, just when the Movimiento por la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad (The movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity) was being created by the poet Javier Sicilia – after his son Juan Francisco was brutally murdered by a group belonging to organized crime. During two years, she went along a group of journalists all over Mexico narrating the stories of all the victims on the two caravans that were organized by the movement.
It was on these painful journeys that she got to know Javier Sicilia, a poet who had identified with the nonviolent civil resistance philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi and Lanza del Vasto, something that helped him go through and get over his own grief and that of those other families who had also lost their sons, husbands, cousins, uncles, parents or friends in this spiral of violence that has already led to more than 100.000 deaths and disappearances.
The experience of the Movimiento por la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad helps us understand how hope is built little by little, from nonviolent civil resistance and losing fear.
