Piecing it together: Feminism and Nonviolence has been written at a peak moment for the European pacifist movement. It was a time of urgency. The Cold War confronted two sides under the threat of a nuclear attack. The term Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) very well reflects the madness of the established powers at that time.
The four chapters of the work analyse the world, the war, the institutions maintaining it and perpetuating violence; they explain the basic theories and the action methods of feminism and nonviolence; they launch a call to take our lives into our own hands and project the horizon we could be heading for.
The authors of the Feminism and Nonviolence Study Group wanted to promote the awareness of the ideas and practices of feminism and nonviolence at the heart of the pacifist movement. They wanted to tie up loose ends, showing that both concepts share common ideas like respect for human life and the desire for social transformation towards a future without violence. And that the acknowledgment of these common aspects enhances the strengths of both movements.
