As a part of Fira Literal, the ICIP is organizing the event “Abolishing the Punishment Industry: Challenges and Political Practices for Emancipation”, a conversation between two leading voices in contemporary abolitionist thought: Ruth Wilson Gilmore, geographer, activist, and author of Geography of Abolition (Virus Editorial), and Ainhoa Nadia Douhaibi, a researcher specializing in institutional and state racism.

The session will explore the connections between the prison system, racial capitalism, and the geography of punishment, while reflecting on how to translate abolitionism into a transformative political practice. The speakers will present concrete proposals to confront punishment and repression as responses to social conflict, from a perspective of collective emancipation.

An event to rethink the role of prisons, the meaning of justice, and the future of a more just and equitable society.
