The new Taula Catalana pels Drets Humans i la Pau a l’Amèrica Central (Catalana Coordinating Group for Human Rights and Peace in Central America), created by nineteen organizations – and the ICIP are organizing the conference “Human Rights and Peace in Central America: Challenges and opportunities” on June 18 and 19 at the Barcelona History Museum, in the Sala Martí l’Humà.

The conference will discuss the peace and human rights challenges facing Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala. It also wants to give visibility to the complaints, ideas, initiatives, and alternatives presented by civil society to put the value of life at the centre of the debates.

During two days of debate, topics such as the co-optation of the state by criminal networks, the unlimited tendering of territories, social remilitarization, or polarization and hate speeches (LGTBIQ-phobias, sexists and racists) will be addressed ), as part of the human rights violations suffered by the population, driven to inhumane migration routes as a result also of the migration policies of the Global North.
