ICIP has scheduled several public events in June to launch the book ETA: el desenlace. La paz esquiva en el País Vasco (published originally in English in 2014 and translated by ICIP in “Paz y seguridad” series). These events will feature the participation of the author, Teresa Whitfield, who will talk to people familiar with the conflict and the political and social situation in the Basque Country.

The tour has been organized in collaboration with Baketik and will begin in the Basque Country and then it will then move on to Madrid and Barcelona.

The first book launch will take place in the Elkar bookshop in Vitoria-Gasteiz on Friday 16 June at 7:00pm. In this event, the author will be talking to Felix Iriarte.

On Monday 19 June at 7:00pm, the book will be launched at the Elkar bookshop in Donostia. On this occasion, Teresa Whitfield will be talking to Maider Maraña, of Baketik, and the activist Paul Ríos.

After touring the Basque Country, Teresa Whitfield will be presenting her book at the Marcial Pons bookstore in Madrid, on Tuesday 20 June at 6:30pm. Here she will be speaking to the journalist Luis R. Aizpeolea.

The last book launch event will take place in Barcelona on Wednesday 21 June and will feature a conversation with the journalist Mònica Terribas. The event will take place in La Central del Raval bookshop at 7:00 pm.

About the book

Written by conflict resolution expert Teresa Whitfield and first published in English in 2014, the book Endgame for ETA provides a detailed account of the long road to the Basque terrorist group’s declaration of a halt to armed conflict. The new edition in Spanish includes an updated review of the process written by the author after a working visit to the Basque Country in September 2022. The book also includes a chronology and an updated glossary of people and organizations. Thus, it is a comprehensive study of the Basque conflict that offers information on the complexities of the history and politics of the Basque Country.

The Spanish edition was translated by Andrés Krakenberger, a human rights activist and member of the human rights association Argituz. The book is part of ICIP’s “Peace and security” series.
