The Chinese activist Hu Jia is freed after three years in prison

The China's authorities have released one of the country's most well-known dissidents, the human rights activist Hu Jia, who had been imprisoned since April 2008 after having denounced the Chinese regime's repression and criticising the Chinese Communist Party's mismanagement of the environment. He was released just a few days days after the release of another human rights activist, the artist Ai Weiwei. However, human rights groups say that there are still dozens of dissidents under arbitrary arrest in China.
